Donkey Kong is Coming, Mario is Driving Away
The smaller installed base of the Switch 2 at launch leads to a curious picture in the charts. Apparently, so many console buyers purchased Mario Kart World on Day One that the title dropped out of the top 20. It was replaced by Donkey Kong.
The curious change in the best Switch 2 game in the charts naturally offers another long-seller the opportunity to reclaim the top spot: EA Sports FC 25 takes back first place just a few weeks before its natural successor is released.
Donkey Kong Bananza is right behind it, having found enough buyers despite the limited number of potential customers to jump to second place.
Donkey Kong thus succeeds Mario Kart World, which probably sold so many copies on Day 1 that hardly any Switch 2 owner doesn't already have it. But anyone familiar with Nintendo and its long-seller strategy knows that Mario Kart World will remain a permanent fixture in the charts for many months, if not years.
